Founded on May 18, 2018 in Samsun, Samsun University continues its activities with the slogan "Qualified University for Qualified Society". Bearing the name of the city where it was founded and aiming to carry out its studies in an integrated manner with the city, Samsun University conducts scientific education and training studies at a global level with its highly qualified academic programs. Samsun University, which undertakes a very valuable mission in science production, which is of great importance for the development of our country, has taken it as a duty to feed society in scientific, technological, artistic, and cultural terms by blending knowledge with technology. Samsun University, named after Samsun, the city of National Struggle, the pearl of the Black Sea, where Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk took his first step, moves forward with strategies that take into account the needs of the city, region, and country while realizing its structuring. With the realization that the health sector is at the forefront among the "investment areas" in Samsun and that the patient potential of the city is quite high, it has become necessary to establish a new Faculty of Medicine in the city in order for the expression "Samsun, the City of Health", which has been expressed for a long time, to come to life in a strong way. As a result of the consultations and initiatives made, the relevant decision was published in the Official Gazette with the blessings of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Samsun University Faculty of Medicine was officially launched. In addition to the newly established Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Samsun University continues its activities with 3 faculties: Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences; 2 colleges: School of Civil Aviation and Kavak Vocational School and the newly established Graduate Education Institute. Samsun University is located on 3 different areas, namely Canik Campus, Ballıca Campus, and Kavak Campus. While the campuses were structured, the units in the field of Social Sciences were established in Canik Campus, the units in the field of Technical Sciences in Ballıca Campus, and Kavak Vocational School in Kavak Campus. In addition to the Faculties and Schools of Samsun University, the Vocational School of Technical Sciences was added as a new unit on May 08, 2019. This unit is planned to be established in Ballıca Campus. Prof. Dr. Mahmut AYDIN was appointed as the first and founding rector of Samsun University and has been in office since September 10, 2018. Since this date, a rapid development process has been followed academically and administratively. Samsun University, which entered a rapid structuring process after Rector AYDIN took office, reached its medium-term goals in the short term and increased the number of departments to 28 and the number of students to over 4000. Samsun University, which has been carrying out education, research, and community service activities since its establishment, is taking the right steps to contribute to the human capital of our country by opening postgraduate non-thesis, thesis, and doctorate programs in the fields needed by today's world. Samsun University, which aims to carry out academic and scientific activities for the development of society and the city, offers important advantages in terms of university and city integration. Samsun, which is the largest city in the Black Sea region and a multicultural city where everyone finds something from themselves and where the university is located, has very important riches in the fields of agriculture, industry, tourism, sports, education, culture, science, and art. It is ready to host its students in the best way possible by reinforcing this pioneering role with its constantly developing facilities. Today, education and training are no longer accepted as an activity carried out only in classrooms. Off-campus living spaces are important for the individual to gain continuous learning and collective working skills in every aspect of his/her life within the possibilities and conditions of the space he/she is in. Samsun University will provide all kinds of social and cultural environments necessary for each student to reveal his/her special interest and potential as an individual freely and with self-confidence. Samsun University, which offers not only a campus but also a warm educational home, is a big family with its students, qualified academic and administrative staff who are experts in their fields.
